As fans of video game adaptations gear up for the premiere of Amazon Prime's highly anticipated Fallout TV series, critics have already started weighing in with their reviews. And the consensus so far? Glowing, to say the least.
The show, which is based on Bethesda's popular post-apocalyptic game franchise, has managed to impress reviewers and currently boasts an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 93%.
IGN described it as "A bright and funny apocalypse filled with dark punchlines and bursts of ultra-violence, Fallout stands up there with The Last of Us among the best game adaptations ever made." The review awards the series a solid 9/10, highlighting its brilliantly constructed storyline and fantastic finale.
The Telegraph also had high praise for the show, stating, "It's hard to think of another video game adaptation that better conveys the sheer, giddy hedonism of a top-notch shoot 'em up." Similarly, BBC Culture awarded it four stars, emphasizing how both fans and newcomers to the Fallout universe will find something to enjoy.
While THR had a more mixed take, pointing out the show's charm but also its flaws, Rolling Stone was less enthusiastic, calling it "arch and overly-familiar." Despite some mixed reviews, the overall consensus is positive and fans are eagerly looking forward to the premiere of all eight episodes of the first season later today on Amazon Prime Video.
