Apex Legends' Breakout Season: A Game-Changer

Nathan Lees

Apex Legends, the popular battle royale game by Respawn Entertainment, is on the brink of a major overhaul with its upcoming Breakout season, launching on February 13th. This update is not just another seasonal change; it's a comprehensive revamp aimed at enhancing the gaming experience in several key areas.

At the heart of the Breakout season is the introduction of an all-new Legend Upgrade system. This innovative feature allows players to build in-game progression and tailor the abilities of their chosen legends throughout a match. By earning EVO, players can level up, a change that also sees body shields removed from the loot pool. However, the game preserves the essence of armor swapping through the introduction of "Shield Cores" dropped by players.

Another significant update is the removal of body shields from the loot pool, a move that will undoubtedly change the dynamics of gameplay. Players, however, will still find "Shield Cores" on their fallen adversaries, allowing for the strategic element of armor swapping to remain intact.

The Breakout season also marks the return of the ranked mode splits and resets the level requirement to 20, a nod to the game's earlier seasons that many players appreciated for the extended ranking opportunities it provided.

In addition to these gameplay changes, Apex Legends is introducing a 120HZ performance mode, promising smoother and more responsive gameplay. This update is especially crucial for the Battle Royale mode, where every detail and split-second decision can be the difference between victory and defeat.

A new map, Thunderdome, is being added to the Mixtape playlist, offering players a fresh battleground that, while inspired by the original Kings Canyon landing zone, promises a unique experience.

EA has also teased more details to come with the Breakout Patch Notes blog, scheduled for February 12, 2024. This announcement is eagerly awaited by fans, eager to learn more about each Legend's upgrade tree.

As Apex Legends approaches its fifth anniversary, these sweeping changes signal a new chapter for the game. Following the recent Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth crossover event, it's clear that Apex Legends continues to innovate and evolve, keeping the gameplay fresh and engaging for its dedicated player base.
