Bungie has recently made significant changes at the top of the Marathon development team, with the game's director being replaced, as reported by IGN.
In a surprising move, Christopher Barrett, who had been the game director for Marathon, has been removed from his position.
Stepping into the role of Marathon game director is Joe Ziegler, a former game director on Valorant who joined Bungie after leaving Riot Games in 2022.
Ziegler himself confirmed the transition on Twitter, stating, "Fun update: for the last 9 Months I've been working on Marathon as the game director. We're still baking, but I'm excited to share with you more info on the game as we get closer and closer to bringing it to all of you."

Months I’ve been working on Marathon as the game director. We’re still baking, but I’m excited to share with you more info on the game as we get closer and closer to bringing it to all of you.
According to insights from IGN's Rebekah Valentine, these changes at Bungie come during a period of uncertainty following layoffs the previous year. Additionally, sources mentioned that Bungie is heavily investing resources to ensure Marathon's successful release.
Under Ziegler's direction, various modifications have been made to the game's development process, including a shift from custom characters to predetermined character options for players.
While the game's official release date remains uncertain, it has been confirmed that Marathon will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC upon launch.
