Marvel Rivals, the highly anticipated hero shooter from NetEase, has recently stirred up some controversy within the gaming community. The closed alpha playtest, which launched over the weekend, has revealed some unexpected restrictions placed on content creators who are diving into the game.
One of the prominent streamers, Brandon Larned, took to Twitter to shed light on the issue. According to Larned, content creators like himself are forbidden from expressing any negative opinions about Marvel Rivals as per the terms of the contract. This kind of restriction is unusual in the gaming industry and has sparked a discussion among gaming enthusiasts.
Even dataminer and trusted leaker, Miller Ross, expressed his concerns regarding this unexpected clause in the contract. Despite the standard procedure of signing a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) to participate in closed playtests, it's rare for developers to impose such limitations on feedback.
I didn't want to engage in this conversation because I told NetEase I would avoid negative topics where possible and I really did intend to stick to that, but this involves dear friends and I have to address this. Here's the timeline.

While it's understandable that NetEase aims to protect their game from unwarranted criticism, the approach of prohibiting any negative comments seems overly restrictive. There could have been alternative methods to ensure constructive feedback without stifling opinions.
Marvel Rivals is still under development, with no official release date announced yet. However, the game is set to launch on PC, and speculation suggests a console release may follow based on datamined information.
