Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Experiences a 90% Sales Decline in Japan

Nathan Lees

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the latest installment in the Square Enix series, experienced a significant drop in sales in Japan, according to the Famitsu sales report. The game only sold 24,482 copies in the week of March 4th to March 10th, bringing its total sales to 287,138 in its second week after release.

Despite receiving rave reviews from critics and players, with its demo also garnering positive reactions, the sales decline has surprised many. The game was hailed as a "Metacritic Must-Play" title and launched exclusively for PlayStation 5 on February 29th.

In a recent statement, Yoshinori Kitase suggested that the game's success was attributed to its exclusive PlayStation 5 launch. He explained that the seamless world map and game design choices may have played a significant role in its performance.

However, despite the positive reviews and acclaim in other regions, the future of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in Japan remains uncertain following its sales decline.

On a brighter note, fans can look forward to a PC version of Final Fantasy 16, which is reportedly in its final stages of optimization. Producer Naoki Yoshida teased that a demo for the game could be released sooner than expected, adding excitement for fans of the franchise.
