Founder of Saber Interactive Claims that 'Everyone Seems to Like to Pick on Embracer'

Matthew Karch, the founder of Saber Interactive, recently defended Embracer Group and its CEO, Lars Wingefors. Embracer Group, a Swedish gaming company, went through a significant restructuring process last year after a $2 billion deal fell through unexpectedly.

The restructuring resulted in the closure of several studios, including Saints Row developer Volition, Campfire Cabal, and TimeSplitters studio Free Radical Design. Additionally, companies like Borderlands maker Gearbox and Saber Interactive were sold off as part of the changes.

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Karch expressed his support for Embracer's efforts to save as many jobs as possible during the restructuring. He praised CEO Lars Wingefors for his dedication to the company and the industry, despite facing criticism and challenges.

Karch highlighted the widespread layoffs in the gaming industry in recent years, noting that Embracer's situation was not unique. Companies like Microsoft, Bethesda, Activision Blizzard, Unity, and Sony have also announced significant job cuts in the past year.

Despite the difficulties, Karch remains optimistic about Embracer's future. He believes that the company has made necessary changes to become more manageable and is working on exciting projects that gamers will appreciate.

Regarding the collapsed deal that triggered Embracer's restructuring, Karch confirmed that it was with the Saudi government-funded Savvy Games Group.

In conclusion, Karch praised Embracer's dedication to the gaming industry and expressed confidence in the company's ability to overcome its challenges and thrive in the future.
