Helldivers 2, the latest co-op shooter from Sony, has taken the gaming world by storm since its release last month. According to TD Cowen analyst Doug Creutz, the game has likely sold over 8 million copies already and continues to grow in popularity week after week. In fact, Creutz stated, "We believe the game has performed well ahead of expectations."
While Sony has not officially released sales figures, the game has consistently attracted over 430,000 concurrent players on Steam, as reported by SteamDB. Additionally, GSD data published by GamesIndustry.biz shows Helldivers 2 made history in the UK as the best-selling game in February, defying market trends with increasing weekly sales after its February 8 debut.
Notably, the PS5 version dominated sales in the UK, accounting for 57% of total sales, while the remaining 43% came from PC players. The success of Helldivers 2 has sparked rumors of a possible acquisition of its developer, Arrowhead Game Studio, by PlayStation, although the studio has refuted these claims.
After addressing server issues that plagued the game at launch, Arrowhead's CEO Johan Pilestedt expressed excitement for the future, stating, "Now we have time to focus on improvements to the title and resume our original plan. Many exciting things upcoming."
