Helldivers 2 Update Introduces New Hazards and Balance Changes

Nathan Lees

The widely played third-person shooter game - Helldivers 2, is experiencing a series of changes with the latest update that just came alive on the PC platform.

A hot-off-the-press announcement for the deployment of mechs into the game preceded this update. Though the current changes do not embrace the mechs, it has multiple exciting features to thrill the players.

Firstly, this update introduces new environmental threats that players need to combat during the missions. Elements such as "fire tornadoes" and "meteor showers" amongst others, add to the existing challenges making the game more than just a bug-killing quest.

Besides the exotic planetary threats, this Helldivers 2 update also brings numerous balance changes aimed at providing a smooth gameplay experience. For instance, in eradicate missions, players are now required to make more kills and confront frequent enemy spawns, ensuring a longer gameplay time - a deliberate change by Arrowhead to balance the mission lengths.

This latest hazard-filled update also carries a whole bunch of weapon balance changes. The commonly used Breaker now comes with a decreased magazine capacity and increased recoil. In another key change, the armor penetration of Railgun in Safe Mode has been reduced.

Next to the game balance changes are multiple bug fixes and improvements. For example, the flashlight efficacy has been enhanced, sand rain visibility on Erata Prime has been increased, among other changes. This provides a better visual experience and adds more elements of realism into the gameplay.

The full list of patch notes for this update is available, which includes other issues that the developer is currently trying to address. The update is accessible on PC currently, whereas the PS5 version is slated to come out "soon", as per the Arrowhead update.
