While not officially mentioned in the game's latest patch notes, players are now encountering large bat-like creatures known as Shriekers in certain missions. These new enemy types emit high-pitched screeches as they divebomb players, slashing at them with their talons. It adds a whole new level of intensity to the gameplay!
According to Windows Central, Shriekers are currently only found in maps where a Shrieker Lair is one of the side objectives. Players have taken to sharing footage and discussing these new enemies online, even though Arrowhead Game Studios has yet to officially acknowledge their presence.
Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt took to Twitter to humorously address the rumors, stating, "I've heard rumors of flying bugs in @helldivers 2. I want to officially refute such preposterous claims. Everyone knows that 'Bugs can't fly'. And I'm not alone in thinking this." The game's creative director also chimed in, adding to the playful denial.
The arrival of Shriekers follows the recent addition of heavily armored mechs in the Helldivers 2 community, adding even more excitement to the game. Additionally, the game's latest premium Warbond, Cutting Edge, is set to be released for PS5 and PC on March 14th. This unique anti-alien cache includes explosive weapons, prototype armor, capes, player cards, emotes, and utility boosters to enhance your gameplay experience.
