Mortal Kombat 1 Reveals 'Krossplay' Update

Nathan Lees

NetherRealm Studios has announced an exciting update for Mortal Kombat 1, scheduled for next week, which will introduce cross-platform play capabilities, aptly named 'Krossplay'. This eagerly anticipated feature will bridge the gap between PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC enthusiasts, allowing them to compete against each other regardless of their gaming platform. While specific details remain under wraps, the announcement has sparked considerable buzz within the gaming community.

The introduction of crossplay to Mortal Kombat 1 comes amidst observations that rivals such as Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 have supported the feature from their launch. Despite some voices in the community labeling the move as overdue, the consensus is clear: this update marks a significant victory for gamers wishing to connect with friends across different systems.

As of November, Mortal Kombat 1 boasted impressive sales, having moved 3 million units. Although its prominence has waned slightly in the sales charts, the game remains a staple in the fighting game scene, thanks in part to regular content updates and patches.

The upcoming update promises to inject even more excitement into the fray with the introduction of high-profile characters. Fans can look forward to John Cena's Peacemaker, brought to life with Cena's own voice, and a new twist on a familiar face with Janet Cage, a female variant of the iconic Johnny Cage. Janet will debut as a Kameo character, offering support during battles.

The 'Krossplay' feature is set to go live in Mortal Kombat 1 on February 28, 2024, marking a new chapter in the game's evolution.
