Respawn Entertainment Developing New Game in Titanfall Universe

Nathan Lees

Rumours have emerged suggesting that Respawn Entertainment, the noted gaming studio, is presently endeavouring on a project that will further explore the universe of Titanfall.

Jeff Grubb, reporter for Giant Bomb, lends credence to these reports, hinting that discussions are ongoing within Respawn Entertainment's walls. This news comes after the recent confirmation that Electronic Arts, Respawn's parent company, had decided to dismiss a Star Wars FPS formerly in development at Respawn Entertainment.

The discontinuation of the aforementioned Star Wars game was confirmed by EA's president of entertainment and technology, Laura Miele. Miele's announcement revealed that this development would allow Respawn Entertainment, creators of the acclaimed Apex Legends, to channel their resources into fresh projects. These would not only draw from their existing franchises, including Star Wars Jedi, but also from their extensive archive of owned brands.

During an interview last year, Vince Zampella, the CEO of Respawn, announced that an "original IP" game has been in development by a small team in their early stages. This team, dubbed "skunkworks", is headed by Steve Fukuda, who was the game director for both Titanfall and Titanfall 2. Zampella told Axios that the team is "focused on creating something fun and new."

The most recent episode of Game Mess Mornings featured Grubb's commentary seemingly referring to the secretive project Zampella mentioned. Grubb revealed that the game had entered the next stage of prototyping.

The existence of a game set within the captivating Titanfall universe did not equate to Titanfall 3, said Grubb. He revealed that the project has advanced from a small team working on early prototypes to a comprehensive project, although it is still in its prototyping stage. The game is being overseen by the original director of Titanfall.

Grubb emphasized that the game might still be considered a "Titanfall game," without necessarily being Titanfall 3. The gaming site Bloomberg reported that Titanfall Legends, an unannounced Apex Legends spin-off that was being developed by Respawn, was cancelled by EA. Grubb later stated that this Titanfall Legends project comprised of a single-player experience which would invoke Titanfall within the vastly popular Apex Legends universe.

The cancelled Titanfall Legend campaign was reported by The Titanfall Game to include characters from Apex Legends as well as BT, the titan companion featured in Titanfall 2's story. Grubb added further details, stating that the campaign planned on giving players special powers as they interacted with Apex Legends' characters, attempting to attract a larger audience who was more acquainted with Apex Legends than Titanfall.

Although the nature and name of this newest addition to the Respawn Entertainment's library are still under wraps, the murmurings surrounding its development indicate that it is a product Titanfall fans can eagerly anticipate.
