In the ever-evolving world of gaming, change is the only constant. This rings true for the eagerly anticipated Smite 2, where players will embark on a new journey, albeit without their cherished skins from the original Smite. During the Smite World Championships, Titan Forge, the game's developer, shed light on this significant shift.
Why Skins Aren't Carrying Over
The decision to not transfer skins from Smite to Smite 2 stems from a practical challenge. Titan Forge's exec producer, Travis Brown, highlighted the time-intensive process involved in porting skins from Unreal 3 to Unreal 5 - the engine powering Smite 2. With over 1600 skins in the original game, the task would be Herculean, requiring an estimated 246 years to complete.
Understanding the value of loyalty, Titan Forge introduces the Legacy Gems system in Smite 2. Players will receive Legacy Gems equivalent to the Gems spent in the original game. These can be used to cover half the cost of most in-game purchases in Smite 2. Additionally, purchasers of any Smite 2 founders packs will receive double the Legacy Gems.
Set to redefine the multiplayer battle arena experience, Smite 2 will be available on platforms like Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. While the release date remains under wraps, fans can look forward to closed alpha testing in spring 2024.
Change may be daunting, but it often brings exciting new opportunities. Smite 2 promises to offer a fresh experience while honoring the dedication of its fan base through the Legacy Gems system. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the alpha testing phase.
