In an unexpected turn of events, the Epic Games Store has updated its weekly free game offering, now presenting Super Meat Boy Forever as the latest title for gamers to claim at no cost. Initially, Epic had disclosed that players would have the opportunity to add three iconic Fallout titles - Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel - to their digital libraries for free from February 22-29. This plan has been revised, with the auto-runner sequel to Super Meat Boy stepping in to take the spotlight.
The reasons behind this sudden change remain undisclosed. It's worth noting that the Fallout games in question had been part of a one-day giveaway on the Epic Games Store back in December 2022. Super Meat Boy Forever will be taking over from Dakar Desert Rally, the current free offering, which will remain available until February 22. Dakar Desert Rally, developed and published by Saber Interactive, is described as the most expansive off-road rally racing adventure ever created, featuring a diverse array of licensed vehicles including motorcycles, cars, trucks, quads, and SSVs.
The Epic Games Store has seen significant growth, boasting over 270 million customers in 2023, with 75 million of those being monthly active users as of December, according to figures released by Epic. In the previous year, the platform generated $950 million in revenue, with $310 million coming from third-party PC games. Despite offering fewer free titles in 2023 (86 compared to 99 in 2022), the value of these games totaled $2,055, and nearly 586 million copies were claimed by users, a slight decrease from the 700 million claimed in 2022.
