Helldivers 2, the beloved cooperative shooter developed by Arrowhead Games Studios, has captured the hearts of gamers with its strategic gameplay and heart-pounding action. Currently, the game features a four-player squad limit that enhances the intense cooperative experience.
However, a recent conversation on the Helldivers 2 Discord, as reported by PC GamesN, revealed that the possibility of expanding squad sizes in the future is not off the table. A community manager at Arrowhead shared insights on the topic, stating that while the team has considered the idea of allowing larger squads, it would involve a substantial amount of work and is not confirmed for future updates.
In response to questions about increasing team sizes, the community manager highlighted the challenges of balancing and maintaining the game's difficulty with more players. Implementing larger squads would necessitate adjustments to difficulty levels, game maps, and mission objectives to ensure a seamless gaming experience.
At present, Arrowhead Game Studios is dedicated to refining the existing content, addressing bugs, and introducing new features like Warbonds. While the notion of larger squads may excite players, it is not a priority in the current development roadmap.
Considering the pros and cons of expanding squad sizes, some players believe that the essence of Helldivers 2 lies in the strategic cooperation of a tight-knit team of four. They argue that increasing the squad size could potentially alter the game's core dynamics and diminish its unique appeal.
There are concerns about the availability of players to fill larger squad slots, especially on Xbox platforms. Introducing additional players before ensuring a robust player base may pose challenges and impact the overall gameplay experience.
