Sony has begun issuing refunds to PlayStation 4 owners of The Last of Us Part 2 who purchased the PlayStation 5 version at full price. This move comes as a response to the confusion surrounding the game's upgrade path, which allows PS4 owners to upgrade to the PS5 version for a nominal fee of $10/£10.
The issue came to light when several players, unaware of the upgrade option, bought the PS5 version of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered at its full price. Sony's decision to refund these purchases highlights their commitment to customer satisfaction and acknowledges the oversight in communicating the upgrade path effectively.
Wondering how the $10 USD upgrade for #TLOU2Remastered works?

Just go to PS Store once the game launches on January 19 to upgrade. Owners of PS4 disc copies must insert them into their PS5 with a disc drive to download and play the digital version. Price may vary by country. pic.twitter.com/9mXoKUNjgN
A message sent to affected players read: “As an owner of the PS4 digital version of The Last of Us Part II, a digital upgrade to the PS5 digital version will be available at a deeply discounted price on launch day 19/1/24. We don’t want you to lose out on that opportunity so, as a gesture of good will, we have refunded your purchase for the pre-order of the PS5 version of The Last of Us Part II Remastered so that you may purchase the digital upgrade on launch day.”
This gesture of goodwill is not just about the refund; it also ensures that players receive any pre-order bonuses they were entitled to with their original purchase. The refund process, however, may take up to 60 days to reflect on the customer's statement. If the refund cannot be processed to the original payment method, it will be credited to the player's PlayStation Network wallet.
The PS5 version of The Last of Us Part 2 boasts significant enhancements, including improved graphics, a new single-player roguelike survival mode titled "No Return," and a set of 'Lost Levels' featuring content previously cut from the game. These additions, along with the improved visuals and haptic feedback, offer a compelling reason for players to experience the game on the latest console.
